My childhood memories full of the sunlight, the sea and the bright blue sky of Greece inspired me to create Marika. Designs with various materials unfolding their Greek identity through a collection of Greek handmade items.
When the hand feels free to create,
it comes up with just a figure.
When the memory is set free,
the image is effortlessly linked to the Greek tradition.
When the heart finds its pulse,
it recognizes the Greek
mother, daughter and grandmother.
Our Marika.
Nice to meet you,
Elli.
It all begins with this abstract figure that I created during the time of the economic crisis in Greece. Having the desire to stay in my country and contribute with my artistic touch. I dress the figure with Greek costume, Greek tradition and flavors so that residents and visitors can recall the aroma of Greece. Her name Marika, my father’s sister, and another aunt of my family and all the Marias of Greece.
Next, In a photo studio I captured this figure on canvas, composing 21 images, using natural raw materials. Marika as an olive, the sea, a Greek salad, stuffed peppers, Greek coffee, honey puffs are some of them. The result of these images is applied to Greek, handmade utility objects. Created from all of us with respect to tradition, love and passion for our project, ready for you to use them everyday and carry with you Greece in your everyday life!
